Akali leader Harsimrat did not endorse Rahul’s LS gestures, says Union Minister

New Delhi, July 23 :  Union Minister and BJP leader Hardeep Singh Puri on Monday said Congress President Rahul Gandhi has “over interpreted the amusement” in Lok Sabha during the July 20 debate on No Trust Motion and Akali leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal did not endorse Mr Gandhi’s speech and gestures in the House.
On Friday, after resuming his speech after a break forced by disruptions, Mr Gandhi had claimed in Lok Sabha that even the woman leader from Akali Dal (Ms Badal) was smiling at him.
For her part, Ms Badal later said she found Mr Gandhi’s speech and gestures only ‘dramebaazi (theatrics)’.
Mr Puri, a diplomat-turned-politician, took to Twitter on Monday morning and wrote: “She (Ms Badal) hit back hard with “what did you take today?” This one made headlines across dailies and channels, and will take time to wear off”.
He further wrote: “Lesson best learnt early for someone entering public life is to be exceptionally careful and check facts. Rahul Gandhi made a serious mistake when he over interpreted the amusement in opposition benches and went on to suggest endorsement by Harsimrat Kaur Badal”.
In a series of missives in the micro blogging site, Mr Puri also took exceptions to Rahul Gandhi walking across to the Prime Minister.
“The leader walked across to the PM, 20 yrs his senior and a PM elected with majority after decades, and disrespectfully gestured at him to get up for a hug,” Mr Puri posted.
The Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs also wrote, “This breach of parliamentary ethics came after he unleashed a series of gaffes (or intentional misrepresentation of facts?) in his speech. The ones on Rafale and GST blew up on his face as they were rebutted within minutes”.

He was critical of the opposition parties in general and wrote: “With no signs of unity on the floor, and 325 votes against the motion, it is a clear indication that the so called semblance of ‘grand alliance’ is already coming apart long before 2019”.
“Bad homework or habitual misleading politics? Perhaps people will seek answers. One wonders what the allies are thinking if this is what the once grand party has been reduced to,” Mr Puri tweeted in reference to the Congress party and went onto add: “The comical theatrics put up in the name of debate by the president
of a national party should be a matter of concern to the party and our nation”.
