Tribal parties want NRC Tripura

Agartala, Aug 01 :   The publication of NRC in Assam has fuel further the demand of tribal based opposition Indigenous Nationalist Party of Twipra (INPT) to implement it in Tripura taking 1971 as base year for identification of infiltrators in the state, which adversely affected the culture and economy of indigenous population.
The INPT has been agitating for past one and half decades with two of their core demands – deport Bangladeshi people settled in Tripura after 1971 liberation war of Bangladesh and introduce inner line permit for non-tribal to entry in autonomous district council area to protect the indigenous people of the state.
The party has been renewed the demands soon after BJP-IPFT government came in power in Tripura and it’s president former militant turned legislator Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawal supported the NRC exercise of Assam and said, “The spirit of National Register of Citizen (NRC) is very much in the Constitution and Supreme Court had reminded the state about protection of it’s citizens.”
“We would soon organise agitation in Tripura in support of our demand. For the interest of the indigenous population NRC must be prepared in Tripura,” he stated.
He said, “There is no scope of controversy except unless any genuine India is left out from the registry. As a sovereign country the government is duty bound to protect it’s the rights of the citizens and their welfare, landmass and protect the country from infiltrators. The presence of Bangladeshi citizens are everywhere in India, which pose a threat to the country’s security.”
Not only the northeastern states, illegal migrants from Bangladeshi have been creating problem for the citizens of India in cities of West Bengal, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Mumbai and south India but the issue has been ignored for past many years, Hrangkhawal said.
Echoing the same, BJP’s partner in Tripura government IPFT has also supported NRC and said it is a very valid demand for all the states of northeast because infiltration from Bangladesh is ceaseless and these people are master land-grabbers who remain quiet till their numbers are below 10 percent but once they cross the number they start creating disturbances for local and indigenous people.
The party leaders don’t want to be identified said all the areas bordering Bangladesh were being gradually being filled by the infiltrators and this should be stopped and no Indian can oppose it because it is for their safety and security.
The IPFT leaders argued that till 1951 tribal were majority in Tripura but today they reduced to minority and the indigenous life, culture and tradition have been threatened due to infiltration from neighbouring Bangladesh and added, “It is not only non-tribal, several tribal groups have also settled Tripura from Bangladesh after 1971.”
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said that his government has not yet thought of NRC in Tripura and this was not at all an issue for any state even in Assam.
