Sopore: Thousands of people Friday attended funeral prayers of slain Lashkar militant Riyaz Ahmad Dar, who was killed along with his associate in a fierce encounter here this afternoon.
Hundreds of people from Naseerabad, Arampora, Chinkipora, Rehtipora, New Colony and other adjoining localities assembled at Maharajpora when Dar’s body was brought to his native village this afternoon, witnesses told Kashmir Reader. The body was taken to Darul-uloom Maharajpora, where funeral prayers were offered.
Crowds swelled in numbers as mourners carried Dar’s body in a procession to martyrs graveyard Chinkipora for burial.
Dar and his associate Khurshid Ahmad Malik from south Kashmir’s Pulwama were killed in a fierce encounter in Drussu area here. One solider was also killed in the gun-battle that raged in the early hours today.
