Law Department ‘fails’ to engage Standing Counsels for Government Departments
Srinagar: Jammu Kashmir Government seems to be non-serious in defending Government Cases pending before different courts in the state. Departments according to sources have been immensely suffering due to non-availability of Standing Counsels.
Reports said that thousands of cases against different government departments are pending in different courts of Jammu and Kashmir while due to non-availability of Standing Councils these cases are constantly mounting, much to the sufferings of these departments.
An official on condition of anonymity said that the tenure of most of the Counsels is on the verge of expiry or have expired while the government is neither extending their service period nor appointing new Standing Counsels.
Reports said that most of the government departments are pursuing their court cases by hiring private lawyers as Law Department has failed to engage Counsels for them.
“Department heads are requesting Law Department but of no avail. Law Department is in deep slumber and are not responding to the repeated requests to the heads of these departments,” said the official to news agency CNS
