All the shops and other business establishments are closed in the valley and traffic is off the roads. Earlier, on Sunday evening, people including family members and relatives of Maqbool Bhat took out a peaceful candlelight march led by Bhat’s sister Mehmooda Begum from their house up to the main market Trehgam.
In a statement, the JRL comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik have asked Kashmiris to observe complete shutdown today.
“On 11th February 2019, besides a complete and comprehensive shutdown, protest demonstrations will be held at Lal- Chowk Srinagar demanding the return back of mortal remains of great martyrs to their motherland for a proper burial. A memorandum will also be sent to UN secretary general, demanding the return back of mortal remains of Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru,” the JRL spokesman said. (Agencies)
