PM attends SCO Heads of State meeting

Bishkek, Jun 14 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Heads of State meeting here on Friday.
“Standing for peace, development and connectivity in the region,” MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar tweeted as Mr Modi joined the SCO leaders including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping for the formal photo session.
“President Sooronbay Jeenbekov of Kyrgyz Republic, current Chair of SCO Summit 2019 warmly welcomed PM Narendra Modi as he arrived at the Ala Archa Presidential Palace ahead of the SCO Council of Heads of State Meeting today morning,” Mr Kumar wrote in another missive.
On his arrival here on Thursday, Mr Modi held bilateral talks with Mr Putin, Mr Xi Jinping and Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani and shared perspectives on the role played by India towards an inclusive peace process.
Prime Minister will hold bilateral talks with Iranian President Dr Hassan Rouhani.
Sources said Mr Modi will also hold talks with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, President of Mangolia Khaltmagiin Battulga and President Kassym Jormart of Kazakhstan.
During delegation level talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Prime Minister categorically has said – ‘We are committed to peaceful negotiations’ and that India has made efforts in this endeavour but ‘these efforts have been derailed (by Pakistan)”.
‘Prime Minister Modi informed President Xi that Pakistan needs to create an atmosphere free of terrorism and at this stage we did not see this happening. Therefore, we expect Pakistan to take concrete actions on all the issues that India has proposed,’ Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale told a media briefing here.
Mr Modi also said, ‘ We have a consistent position with respect to Pakistan and discuss all issues through a peaceful bilateral mechanism”.
Both Mr Modi and Russian President Putin have identified oil link for deeper cooperation between the two nations, the Foreign Secretary added.
