He also asked them to immediately start plantation drive in degraded forest areas of their respective jurisdictions.Maintaining that public participation is vital for preservation of environment, CF Chenab circle urged upon people to come forward and voluntarily participate in the plantation drive. He said people should plant trees in their surroundings, schools, colleges and Government offices, saying that the department will provide saplings free of cost . Singh also informed that from the month of January till date 4 Lakh saplings were planted in whole Chenab region and mission is Go Green and Grow Green .He said that the recurrence of natural calamities like floods and unanticipated droughts are a direct consequence of the unwarranted and injudicious lifestyles. He called for reorientation of living styles so that the carrying capacity of our natural ecosystem is not compromised.Seeking the cooperation of the people, Singh asked all stakeholders to be part of their ongoing plantation drive so that ecology can be maintained properly. He further appealed people to help the NGO in saving the green gold and increase it by taking active participation in plantation drive. He also informed that in a bid to harness more profits from agriculture, farmers in Chenab valley have taken to orchard plantation. Earlier, farmers grew traditional crops like wheat, pulses and lentils, and they earned little profit on their produce. Now, they have started planting orchards of fruits like Litchi, pears and orange. The farmers are confident to get a good yield since soil in the region is fertile and the weather conducive for orchard plantation. It is worthwhile to mention here that when last year CF TB Singh planted hundreds of deodar saplings in various parts of Bhaderwah division which also included government offices and this year he donated 50 plants free of cost to Bhaderwah Development Authority for plantation at TRC Bhaderwah . It is present CF Chenab circle who introduced the concept of plantation in the region from the day he posted as DFO Bhaderwah tow year back.
