Army man travelling with two grenades arrested

Srinagar: A soldier was arrested at the airport and two live grenades were recovered from him. A case has also been registered.
Police sources said that the recovery was reported during the routine baggage scan of the soldiers who were flying out in a special flight. He was immediately taken into arrest and the investigations have started.
Reports said the detained soldier belonged to 17-JAKLI. His belt no is 13768297. Identified as Bhual Mikhia, he belongs to Bosoli village in Kurseong district of West Bengal’s Darjeeling district. He was deployed in the Uri sector on the LoC.
During the initial investigations, the soldier has told the investigators that the two grenades belonged to his officer. These were supposed to be handed over to somebody in Delhi, he has claimed. Police said they are verifying his claims and investigation is at initial phase. “A soldier has been caught carrying grenade in his pocket as reported by the Airport authorities. The matter is under investigation. As per due process of law, the Army will take action against the individual,” Army spokesman Rajesh Kalia told local news agency.
The army soldier, identified as Bhupal Mukhia of Darjeeling, was arrested by police and taken to Humhama police station for interrogation, reports said.
The anti-hijacking team of Jammu and Kashmir police arrested the army soldier at the Sheikh-ul-Alam International Airport who was travelling with two grenades.
“Necessary action will be taken against him. I am heading to the airport now,” DGP SP Vaid told reporters after wreath laying ceremony of a cop killed in grenade attack in Nowhatta Sunday evening.
