Youth injured as forces open fire in Shopian
Srinagar: A youth sustained injuries on Sunday after government forces resorted to firing in a Shopian village during cordon and search operation.
Sources said that the joint team of army and police laid siege of Heff village in Shopian district after inputs about the presence of militants.
Soon after the siege was laid, locals, mostly youth started protesting by raising slogans and pelting stones on forces, they said.
Forces opened fire and used tear gas shells to disperse the protesters resulting in injuries to a youth. The youth was hit by bullet in his shoulder and was shifted to Pulwama hospital. He was identified as Faizan Ahmad Shah S/O Bashir Ahmad Shah, a resident of Shirmal.
Police Speaks
“Acting on a specific information about presence of militants in village Heff of Shopian a cordon and search operation was launched”, a police spokesman said.
While the cordon was being laid a mob of people assembled. The militants fired upon the security forces and taking advantage of the mob they managed to escape, he said.
After sometime it was learnt that one person has received a bullet injury in his shoulder and was admitted in Pulwama district hospital. His condition is stated to be stable sofar. The Police has taken up the investigation in the incident, he added. (GNS)
