Srinagar: Majority educational institutions remained closed today in the Kashmir valley, where clashes took place yesterday between security forces and students, protesting against the use of alleged disproportionate force on students, including girls, in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on April 16.
The Divisional Administrations as a precautionary measure had announced closure of all universities, colleges and Higher Secondary schools today the Kashmir valley in view of yesterdays clashes.
The Kashmir University (KU), Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) have postponed all examinations which were scheduled to be held today.
However, announcing to continue their agitation against entry of security forces in educational institutions and beating up of students, All Jammu and Kashmir Students Union (AJKSU) said closure of educational institutions for a day will not resolve the issue .
Meanwhile, cutting across party lines, all political parties, including ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded stern action against the security forces who entered Pulwama Degree college in Pulwama, where more than 60 students, including girls, were injured on April 16.
The Divisional Administration (DA) last night announced closure of all universities. colleges and higher secondary schools in view of yesterdays protests and clashes in all degree colleges across the valley.
However, apprehending trouble majority private schools have announced closure of their institutions today in view of yesterday clashes. Attendance in government schools was also very less as compared to other working days as parents fear trouble.
Similar situation was witnessed in educational institutions in north, central and south Kashmir districts.
A spokesman of the AJKSU said that the peaceful protest will continue in all educational institutions of Jammu & Kashmir until the genuine problem of students are not solved.
He said closing the educational institutions today is not answer to alleged atrocities on students by security forces as government must address the genuine demand of students.
The peaceful protests will continue even after shutting all educational institutions in State until the demands like “release of all detained students”, ” assurance that security forces will never enter in any college premises in future.” And Soldiers involved in the Pulwama incident should be punished.
It has now became a war in between” Pens vs pellets” and “Books vs bullets”, the spokesman said and strongly condemned the forces action in Pulwama in which Students sustained injuries.
