Colleges to remain off for two more days

Srinagar: Student protests continue in Kashmir for the third consecutive day on Wednesday. Reports from North Kashmir said that clashes erupted after police used force to disperse students who staged protests in Palhallan and Delina areas on the busy Srinagar-Baramulla highway in north Kashmir on Wednesday.
Reports and witnesses said that students of the Delina Higher Secondary School took out a protest march against the last week’s crackdown on Government Degree College Pulwama in which over 50 students were injured.
Police swung into action and chased away the protesting students who tried to block the highway, triggering clashes. Sensing trouble, government today announced that the colleges in Kashmir shall remain closed for two more days while as the protests by student community are refusing to die-down and today there were massive protests in north Kashmir.
“According to the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, teaching work in all Collages of Kashmir division shall remain suspended on April 20 and 21, 2017 as a precautionary measure,” an official spokesman said here this evening. The classwork in universities, colleges and senior secondaries of Valley is suspended since day before yesterday after students staged massive protests against police excesses on Pulwama students.
Senior secondary students in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district today staged multiple protests to express solidarity with their fellow students during which clashes also broke out at fewer places. The protests were held at Palhallan, Bomai, Delina and Nadihal.
Scores of students on Wednesday hit streets of Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district against the last week’s of crackdown on Government Degree College Pulwama in which several students were injured.
As per the reports available with Kashmir Age, the students of Government Higher Secondary School Kangan hit streets in Kangan on Wednesday and were shouting pro-freedom and anti-government slogans. The students were also raised slogans against the alleged highhandedness of Police and other forces on students across Kashmir valley.
The students marched through the Kangan market and staged a sit-in at the main chowk. However, the police personals present in Kangan market dispersed the protesting students.
Since Monday morning there have been widespread student protests across Kashmir Valley against the forces action inside Government Degree College Pulwama on Saturday. More than 60 students have been injured. There are also pellet hit students among the injured.
Meanwhile, on party lines, all political parties, including ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded stern action against the security forces who entered Pulwama Degree college in Pulwama, where more than 60 students, including girls, were injured on April 16.
The Divisional Administration (DA) already announced closure of all universities. colleges and higher secondary schools in view of Monday protests and clashes in all degree colleges across the valley.
Meanwhile joint resistance leadership today asked people to protest on Friday after prayers in solidarity with student community of Kashmir. Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik in a joint statement while strongly criticizing state administration for invading educational institutions and assaulting students said “it is absolute state terrorism”.
“We won’t allow any depraved action against our youngsters. Students are future of our nation,” said leadership while hailing student community for their exemplary valor. “We are with you,” said leadership while addressing student community and “nation stands with you”. They asked people to hold protest and demonstrate solidarity with student community on coming Friday. (GNS)
