Colleges, higher secondaries remain closed for 4th day

 

High, middle school students protest in Bandipora

Srinagar: The colleges and the higher secondaries across the Valley continued to remain closed for the fourth consecutive day on Friday as the government had ordered the closure of all the colleges till Fridayas precautionary measures.

Earlier, the government had ordered closure of colleges only but following the protests by the students of higher secondary’s, the government ordered the closure of junior colleges too till Apr 21 as precautionary measures.

The colleges were closed by the authorities following the protests on Monday as the students from university, colleges and higher secondary took to streets to protest against the alleged thrashing of students in Degree College Pulwama on Apr 15.

The colleges will continue to remain closed on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the students studying in the high and middle schools in north Kashmir took to streets today to protest against the alleged thrashing of students by forces in Degree College Pulwama in last week.

Reports said that maid pro-freedom sloganeering, the students of High School Bagh in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district carried out a protest rally today.

They said that a few more schools in Ajas and Aloosa area of the district also staged protest against the alleged thrashing of students by forces in Degree College Pulwama on Apr 15.

Meanwhile, a top police official said that the situation across the Valley remained peaceful and under control throughout the day. (KNS)

 

Div Com reviews functioning of Valley Educational Institutions

Srinagar: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan today convened a meeting to review functioning of Educational Institutions in the Valley.

Additional Commissioner Kashmir, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Director Higher Education, Director School Education, Deputy Director Planning, Principals of Educational Institutes and concerned officials attended the meeting, while as Deputy Commissioners of other Valley districts participated in the meeting through video conferencing.

On the occasion, the Divisional Commissioner directed the Principals to adopt proactive approach in dealing with any untoward incidents on campuses and focus on ensuring peaceful atmosphere at their institutions.

He further directed them to involve faculty members for counseling the students on regular basis. He also asked them to not allow any outsider into their respective institute premises.

The Divisional Commissioner also directed the Deputy Commissioners to prepare categorization of all Educational Institutions in the valley and constitute an inspection squad to maintain sanctity of all Educational Institutes.

Meanwhile, he directed the Deputy Commissioners to hold public Darbars at block and tehsil levels at their respective jurisdictions to address public grievances in a time bound manner.
