Students clash with police in Pulwama; people disrupt anti-militancy op in Shopian
Srinagar: Groups of students in Pulwama Town of south Kashmir today once again clashed with police as they were seeking release of detained students.
Reports said students of Pulwama HSS boycotted their classes and appeared in Main Town where they pelted stones on police. The police retaliated by firing teargas and due to the ensuing clash, the business activities came to halt.
The clashes in the area continued intermittently throughout the day. Reports said that the transport activities also came to halt in the Town. However there was no report of injuries to anyone.
Meanwhile, people in Sugan village of Shopian disrupted anti-militancy operation of government forces and pelted stones on them. Sources said police, army and CRPF cordoned off Sugan village after receiving an input about the presence of militants in the area. However, as the searches began, locals started protests and disrupted the operation.
Witnesses said police used teargas shells against the protesters. There were intense clashes between both sides. A cowshed was gutted in fire due to a teargas shell fired by police. The operation was later called off.
