Chill returns after pleasant weather for 2 days in Kashmir
Srinagar: After experiencing pleasant weather for two days, day chill has returned due to overcast conditions in Kashmir though night temperature witnessed some improvement.
However, the night temperature dipped in Leh, which was the coldest place in the region after mercury dipped and settled at minus 0.5 degree, against 2.8 degree recorded yesterday.
A Met department spokesperson told UNI that light to moderate rain and thundershowers would occur at few places during the next 24 hours in Kashmir under the influence of a Western Disturbance (WD), which is action in the region.
The night temperature in border town of Kargil also dipped a degree from yesterday and settles at 2.4 degree.
He said sky will be partly cloudy in Leh, where maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 17 degree and 5 degree, respectively.
After witnessing below freezing point night temperature yesterday at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, the mercury surged and settled at 1.2 degree, which is still 3 notches below normal.
People woke up to a sunny morning in the summer capital, Srinagar though as the day progressed chill returned in the afternoon due to cloudy skies, coupled with ice cold winds. The mercury during the night surged 2 degree from yesterday and settled at 8.3 degree, which is still 2 notches below normal.
He said there will be light rain and thundershower during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, where maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 19 degree and 9 degree, respectively.
The night temperature at Qazigund, gateway to Kashmir valley, Kupwara in north Kashmir and tourist resort of Kukernag improved and settled at 5.6 degree, 6 degree and 6.8 degree, respectively.
The mercury at world famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, witnessed an improvement of 6 degree from yesterday and settled at 7.6 degree, which is 3 degree above normal.
