Poonch BAT action happened post Pak Army Chief’s visit to LoC: BSF
Jammu: A day after two jawans were martyred and their bodies were mutilated, BSF today said that Border Action Team (BAT) action in Poonch was pre-planned and took place after Pakistani Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa visited the Line of Control across the border.
“I don’t want to say anything formally but yes it is true that BAT action happened after Pakistani Army Chief visited the LoC across the border,” Additional Director General KN Choubey told reporters here this morning.
He said that BAT action was pre-planned as such actions never take place spontaneously.
“Ambush, FDL and then instant firing by the Pakistani Army on our patrol party showed that it was pre-planned,” said the ADG.
He also said that the incident took place when a joint team of Army and BSF was patrolling yesterday on the LoC for line of maintenance, Pakistan laid 2 FDL and Ambush following which they started firing and our troops got engaged.
“In between BAT action was launched and taking an advantage of firing, two of our jawans were mutilated,” he added.
The patrol party was comprised of six BSF men and three Army personnel.
One of the injured namely Rajinder Kumar is hospitalised in Northern Command, Udhampur Hospital and is stable, said the ADP.
He further said, “SOPs are always followed by the jawans on the border and from every such incident, we learn a lesson.”
“Army and BSF keep brainstorming and the SOPs are revised to minimise such incidents,” ADG Choubey said.
He however, said that BAT actions were pre-planned and well coordinated, adding, “action from our troops side in such incidents depends upon terrain and other criteria especially when the response, which is completely proportionate to the threat.”
On the launching pads across the border, he said, “launching pads are active but we are very alert.”
“As international border is under the direct control of the BSF, due to our alertness, so far there is no single incident of successful infiltration reported,” said the ADG BSF.
