Post-Friday protests in Kashmir; militants appear at Hajin
Srinagar: Clashes broke out between youth protesters and government forces in several parts of Kashmir today after Friday prayers against the recent police action against students in Pulwama and other areas during which scores of students were injured.
Reports said clashes broke out between youths and government forces in Nowhatta area of Old City after Friday prayers. Police fired some teargas shells to disperse the stone-throwers. The violent clashes also broke out at Sopore Town of north Kashmir.
A complete shutdown was observed by people in Pulwama and Shopian townships of north Kashmir. Reports said that shutdown in Pulwama was observed against police highhandedness yesterday during protests. All the shops and commercial establishments remained closed and people demanded action against the erring police officers.
In Shopian, people observed shutdown against ‘disappearance’ of local youth Zubair Turray alias Chota Geelani from police custody. Clashes broke out between youth and government forces at Memandar area of Shopian. Reports of clashes were also received from Trehgam Kupwara.
In Hajin town of Bandipora district, two Pakistani militants addressed people in local Jama Masjid before Friday prayers. Reports said that the militants later also were presented during pro-Azadi protests by locals in Hajin. Last week also, militants appeared in Hajin during pro-freedom protests.
