Srinagar: Weather turned pleasant this evening much to the delight of the people in Kashmir valley, including summer capital, Srinagar, due to rain, after witnessing hot and humid Monday morning.
A Met department spokesperson told UNI that light rain or thundershowers would occur at few places during the next 24 hours in Kashmir.
Even though there was slight dip in the night temperature at some places in the valley due to rain in the evening yesterday, it was still above normal.
Rain lashed world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, resulting in dip in the day temperature. The night temperature also witnessed dip of a degree from yesterday and settled at 6.4 degree.
“The weather is pleasant since yesterday afternoon in this ski resort. Sun was shining bright in the morning, but as the day progressed, the conditions became overcast followed by rain. But, despite wet weather tourists are enjoying horse ridding and other activities,” a hotelier told UNI over the phone.
People woke up to a hot Monday morning in this summer capital. However, as the day progressed the weather became pleasant due to overcast conditions, which was followed by rain in the evening. Yesterday, the day temperature recorded was 2 degree above normal. Meanwhile, against 12.6 degree recorded yesterday, the night temperature in Srinagar was 12.7 degree.
He said there is possibility of rain or thundershowers during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, where maximum and minimum temperatures tomorrow will be around 23 degree and 12 degree, respectively.
The night temperature at Qazigund, gateway to Kashmir Valley and tourist resort of Kukernag dipped and settled at 9.2 degree and 9.4 degree, respectively.
However, the mercury at world famous health resort of Pahalgam, Kupwara in north Kashmir, Leh and border town of Kargil in Ladakh region surged and settled at 6.6 degree, 11.9 degree, 7.8 and 8.7 degree, respectively.
The spokesperson said there is possibility of rain or thundershowers in Leh, where maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 29 degree and 9 degree, respectively.
