Prof Bhat presides, condemns house detention of Mirwaiz

Srinagar: In connection with the Hafta-e-Shahadat (martyr’s week), seminar titled—“Resolution of Kashmir issue—Prelude to Peace, Guarantee to Stability”, was organized by APHC at its Rajbagh headquarters. The seminar was presided over by senior APHC leader Prof Abdul Gani Bhat as Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was once again placed under house by the totalitarian state preventing him from participating in the seminar. Senior Hurriyat leader Mukhtar Waza and Media Advisor to APHC chairman Advocate Shahidul Islam were also placed under house arrest, barring them to take part in the seminar.
Despite curbs on the movement of Mirwaiz, APHC decided to go ahead with the seminar with Prof Bhat in chair. Many resistance leaders spoke on the occasion including JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik, Moulana Masroor Abbas Ansari, Hurriyat Conference (G) leader Mehrajudin Kalwal, Muhammad Shafi Khan, Mir Ghulam Hassan, Ghulam Nabi Najar, Inamul Haq from Islamic University, Youth Activist Touseef Mir. In his presidential address, Prof Abdul Gani Bhat strongly condemned the house detention of Mirwaiz and stated that those who were talking about “Goli say nahi Boli say” (dialogue and not the gun) stand exposed today as Chairman APHC was barred from attending the seminar. Prof Bhat while welcoming the guests and participants of the seminar, paid rich tributes to Shaheed-e-Milat Moulana Muhammad Farooq(RA), martyrs of Hawal, and Shaheed-e-Hurriyat Khawaja Abdul Gani Lone. APHC is observing Hafta-e-Shahadat(martyr’s week) to commemorate martyrdom anniversaries of Shaheed-e-Milat, martyrs of Hawal and Shaheed-e-Hurriyat from May 16 to May 22.
Prof Bhat said that APHC always yearned for unity among the resistance leaders and today, that demands stand fulfilled as a collective approach has been adopted by the entire resistance leadership. He said since India and Pakistan were both nuclear powers, the two countries most likely would avoid going to a war. So dialogue is the option between the two countries with active participation of people of Kashmir for resolution of the main dispute between them.
In his speech, Chairman JKLF Muhammad Yasin Malik said that what kind of dialogue can be held with fascists in power in India as the Government of India under the BJP and RSS has decided that is repression and killing to suppress Kashmiri people is the policy that they will follow.Malik said that New Delhi along with its local collaborators in Kashmir have unleashed a reign of terror and are muzzling a genuine peoples movement but time is witness that muzzling genuine voices through military might has never succeeded. He said glaring example of State terrorism was that APHC organised a seminar to pay tributes to martyrs that include Shaheed-e-Milat, martyrs of Hawal and Shaheed-e-Hurriyat, but Chairman of the amalgam has been placed under house arrest. Malik said it was because of the State’s anti-youth policies that young boys are forced to pick up arms. Citing example of a Shopian youth Zubair Turay, who joined militant ranks, Malik said he was subjected to worst form of torture and was slapped with PSAs for four consecutive years making his life a hell. Malik, on behalf of joint resistance leaders, reiterated the call for Eidgah chalo on May 21 and urged people to observe a complete shutdown on the day to mark the martyrdom anniversaries of Hurriyat leaders.
Mehraj-udin Kalwal, who was representing Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, in the seminar said, that the leadership is following a united goal and under one slogan of Right to Self Determination and this time there was no confusion. Kalwal said that Kashmiri people are seeking their birth right guaranteed by the 18 resolutions pending in United Nations Security Council and there was no question of begging for its implementation. He said it was something promised by the then Prime Minister of India Jawahar Lal Nehru in Lal Chowk and Kashmiri people are demanding the same. Kalwal said the Kashmiri people were most peace loving and if New Delhi wants a permanent peace people of Kashmir should be given a chance to choose their future.
Moulana Masroor Abbas Ansari, in his speech, paid glowing tributes to Shaheed-e-Milat, martyrs of Hawal and Shaheed-e-Hurriyat, and said oppression and forcible occupation won’t remain long in Kashmir and time will soon come when India will vacate Kashmir.
At the end of program, APHC spokesman strongly denounced the house detention of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, senior Hurriyat leader Mukhtar Ahmed Waza, Media Advisor to Mirwaiz, Advocate Shahidul Islam, and urged people to make the Eidgah Chalo program on May 21st a grand success and to observe a complete shutdown.
