Firing shots near SOG camp, panic in Shopian
SRINAGAR: Panic gripped Zainpora area in south Kashmir district of Shopian, when some firing shots were heard near the Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir valley, shortly before people were preparing for ‘Sehri,’ early this morning.
Official sources said guards posted at SOG camp, Zainapora fired some shots in the air after noticing some suspicious movement, shortly before people were preparing for Sehri (meals) for observing fast.
Firing shots led to panic in the entire area, they added.
Security forces and state police immediately launched a search operation around the camp after the firing.
South Kashmir, particularly Shopian, has witnessed surge in the militant activities during the past about one year, during which many rifle-snatching incidents, bank robbery and attack on security forces and police were also reported.(UNI)
