SRINAGAR: Condemning the lynching of a police officer by a mob near the historic Jamia Masjid in downtown Srinagar, former Union Minister and Congress leader Saifuddin Soz today said the Kashmiris have to rise to the occasion and reject the cult of violence, for all times to come.
Welcoming Hurriyat Conference (HC) chairman Mirwaiz Moulvi Umar Farooq’s condemnation of this barbaric act, he said it might help the proceedings of the enquiry that the Government might institute an enquiry into this crime against humanity.
‘The lynching of Kashmir police officer Mohammad Ayub Pandith, near Jamia Masjid, Srinagar on June 22 night, should not only attract severest condemnation, but people of Kashmir should also introspect and mourn the extreme intolerance and barbaric attitude shown by a group of people, who professed Islam,’ Prof Soz said.
He said the heinous crime couldn’t have been committed by two or three persons, but by a larger number.
‘All must be identified and brought to justice immediately, within the knowledge of people of Jammu and Kashmir. (UNI)
