JAMMU: Amid chants of ‘Bam Bam Bhole’ and ‘Jai Baba Barfani’, the first batch of 2,280 Shri Amarnath pilgrims was today flagged off by Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh from Bhagwati Nagar based Yatri Niwas here for the holy cave shrine situated in South of Himalayas in Anantnag district.
The first batch comprised of 1,811 male, 422 females and 47 sadhus, police spokesman here said.
The batch left in a convoy of 72 vehicles comprising 26 light motor vehicles, 46 buses of State Road Transport Corporation.
The first bus left the base camp at 0522 hrs and the last bus at 0545 hrs.
The spokesman said that the yatra is moving smoothly on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway. (UNI)
