SRINAGAR: The national highway, connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, was reopened this morning after remaining closed for a day due to landslides, triggered by heavy rains.
About 6,000 pilgrims, stranded at Jammu, have been allowed to leave for Nunwan Pahalgam and Batal base camps early this morning.
Meanwhile, the 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh national highway and historic Mughal road, linking Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region, were through for traffic.
A traffic police official Said that traffic was resumed on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway after remaining suspended yesterday due to landslides, triggered by rain at Ramso, Panthihal and Ramban.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the highway, had pressed into service sophisticated machines and men to clear the landslides and put through the highway. (UNI)
