Cellular, mobile internet services remain suspended in south Kashmir

Srinagar, Jul 2:  Cellular and mobile internet services of all companies, including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), remained suspended for the second successive day today as precautionary measure and prevent spread rumours in south Kashmir.
The services were suspended yesterday as precautionary measure in south Kashmir, where two civilians and as many militants of Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) were killed yesterday in Anantnag.
The curb continued today as a precautionary measure in view of a strike call given by separatists against the killings.
The authorities have directed all cellular companies to continue curb on cellular and mobile internet services in south Kashmir today to prevent spread of any rumour on social media.
Police claims that social media was being used to instigate protests and gather demonstrators near the encounter sites in the valley to help militants escape.
Director General of Police (DGP) Dr S P Vaid said killing of two civilians near encounter site in Anantnag was as a result of rumours spread on social media to instigate people.
