SL Navy arrests 8 Indian fishermen, sinks Indian fishing boat

Pudukottai:  Sri Lankan Naval forces arrested eight Indian fishermen, impounded two fishing boats, sank an Indian fishing trawler, destroyed fishing nets and chased away several Indian boats in one of the most vicious attacks in the recent times on Indian fishermen in mid sea, at midnight last night.
Fisheries department officials said here this morning that more than 1000 fishermen hailing from Kottaipattinam and Jagadhapattinam coastal hamlets in Pudukottai district had ventured into the sea for fishing activities yesterday morning.
When the fishermen were engaged in fishing, the Fast Attack Crafts attached to the Northern Naval Command and Sri Lanka Coast Guard arrested eight fishermen and impounded two fishing trawlers on the alleged charges of fishing in Sri Lankan territorial waters, about 14.
