SL Navy detains 7 Indian fishermen, 2 fishing trawlers
Ramanathapuram: Sri Lankan maritime forces detained seven Indian fishermen, confiscated two mechanised fishing trawlers and attacked several Indian fishing trawlers, while they were fishing on the high seas at mid night last night.
State fisheries officials quoting a communiqué from Lanka told newsmen here this morning that two fast attack crafts belonging to the Northern Naval Command of the Island nation arrested seven fishermen, hailing from Mandapam coastal hamlet in Ramanathapuram and detained their two fishing trawlers. The fishermen were allegedly fishing in Sri Lankan territorial waters about 12.5 nautical miles and 9.5 nautical miles North-West off Delft Island. (UNI)
