Sri Lankan Navy detains 4 Indian fishermen, fishing dhow

Pudukottai: Sri Lankan Navy arrested four Indian fishermen and confiscated a fishing dhow for allegedly engaged in illegal fishing activities in the territorial waters of the Island nation at mid night last night.
Fisheries officials said the country boat fishermen, hailing from Jagadapattinam coastal hamlet in Pudukottai district were arrested by a Fast Attack Craft belonging to the Norther Naval Command of the Sri Lankan Navy, when they were fishing in high seas about nine nautical miles North-West of Kovilan coast. The fishermen along with fishing dhow and fishing gear were handed over to the Assistant Fisheries Director, Jaffna for onward legal action.
This is the fourth instance of incarceration of Indian fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy this month. On July five night, the Lankan Navy arrested 8 fishermen belonging to Pudukottai district along with two fishing trawlers and sank a fishing trawler in mid sea attack. Three more fishermen along with a fishing trawler of Pudukottai district were detained on July eight. (UNI)
