Minister distributes cheques worth 6.692 crore among beneficiaries

SRINAGAR: Minister for Horticulture Syed Basharat Bukhari today said that the present govt led by Mehbooba Mufti is very keen in empowering the labour class of the society. Minister  said Government is committed to the upliftment and addressing the needs of the down trodden children and construction  Labour class because they are important  sections of every society  and every society  is incomplete  without their contribution.The government must  respect their needs.The Minister complemented the views of the Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu for transforming the system online so that the benefits accrue to the beneficiary directly. He also said that various initiatives and schemes are being formulated by the government so that this very important class of the society is empowered at the grass root level.

The Minister was speaking in a day long awareness camp, organized by Labour Department Baramulla which witnessed a large gathering of building and other construction workers, contractors and other working classes of the society.

Pertinent to mention, the camp was organized under Building and other Construction workers welfare Act- 1996.

While highlighting the significance of the programme, the minister said that the main aim of the program is to educate the working section about their rights and their protection for which the government is committed.

Reiterating upon the government’s agenda of reaching at every person, the minister said that the labour class is vital for the socio economic development of the society. Meanwhile the Minister offered a patient hearing to the grievances during which he directed the concerned authorities for their timely disposal.

Meanwhile the minister distributed cheques worth Rs 6.692 crore among 6431 beneficiaries which includes Rs 4.760 crore as educational assistance, Rs 1.455 crore as Marriage assistance, Rs 0.055 Crore as chronic disease assistance and Rs 0.422 crore as death and funeral cases.

Moreover, District Development Commissioner Baramulla Dr Nasir Ahmad Naqash appreciated the labour department for organizing such an awareness programme and said that the labourer is the prime constituent of  the society for which this programme is meant for. He also assured that  the district administration will take every possible step for their welfare.

On the occasion, the Assistant Labour Commissioner Baramulla Ashiq Hussain informed that from 2011 to 2017, 36,507 beneficiaries have been covered among which Rs 27,58,66,55 have been disbursed. He said that the amount has been disbursed under various categories including educational and marriage assistance, medical assistance, chronic disease assistance etc.

Among others District Development Commissioner Baramulla Dr.Nassir Ahmad Naqash, Joint Director Planning A.G Malik,Tehsildar Baramulla Maeen Kakroo,Assistant Labour Commissioner Ashiq Hussain besides huge gathering of Labourers and construction workers were present on the ocassion.
