Funding Row: Custody of three separatist leaders extended for a month, others for 10 days

New Delhi: The Patiala court on Friday extended the National Investigation Agency (NIA) custody of four Kashmiri separatists, including son-in- law of Hurriyat leader S.A.S. Geelani by 10 more days, while three separatist leaders were sent to judicial custody for a month in the case.

The agency had arrested seven separatist leaders—Altaf Shah, Ayaz Akbar, Peer Saifullah, Mehraj Kalwal, Shahid-ul-Islam, Naeem Khan and Bitta Karate—from Jammu and Kashmir for funding terror in the Valley on 24 June.

A day after their arrest they were later sent to 10-day NIA custody. The accused have been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.Six of them were arrested from Srinagar, while Bitta Karate was arrested from New Delhi.
