Shabir Shah’s wife “questioned” by ED is unfortunate: Javaid Mir

The respect of women comes before anything else.

SRINAGAR: JKLF (H) Chairman Javaid Ahmad Mir in a statement today has strongly condemned the harassment and torture by The Enforcement Directorate of Dr. Bilqees the wife of arrested Democratic Freedom Party chief Shabir Ahmad Shah in New Delhi when she had gone to meet her husband.

In his statement Javaid Ahmad Mir said that it is Violence against women and is a Violation of Human Rights and fundamental freedoms of women. She had flown to New Delhi to meet her husband at ED office and surprisingly was questioned by ED officials for about four hours. She has been summoned again by the Agency later this week and has been asked to furnish certain documents. Mir said, the ED officials have no moral right to grill Shabir Shah’s wife in money laundering case. The respect of women comes before anything else. The basic reason for her harassment is that she is Kashmiri and wife of Shabir Shah, who is in ED custody. According to the Indian Supreme Court guidelines, “Women cannot be called to the police station for interrogation under Section 160 of the Criminal Procedure Code. This law provides women the right of not being physically present at the police station for interrogation. “The police can interrogate a woman at her residence in the presence of a woman constable and family members or friends” but unfortunately these laws are published on A4 papers and kept in lockers. It is merely frustration of Indian agencies just to derail and make obstacles in ongoing freedom struggle of Kashmir. It is shameful on behalf of Indian agencies that they even don’t respect their countries judicial verdicts.

Mir appealed people not to give any heed to disinformation campaign against pro-freedom leaders by Indian Media and by Government of India and added that Pro-freedom leaders are the custodian of rights and sacrifices of Kashmiris. Mir also appealed the International Human Rights Organizations to take note of worst human rights violations committed against Pro-freedom leaders and people of Kashmir. The present prevailing situation in Kashmir is dangerous and people of Jammu & Kashmir are facing ruthless state-sponsored terrorism.
