Six killed, 8 hurt in a pile up after multiple collision
Chennai: In a gory highway accident, six people were killed and 8 rpt 8 injured, in a pile up of three vehicles at Ratnagiri on the Chennai-Bengaluru NH in Vellore district of Tamil Nadu, last evening.
Police sources said the condition of three of the injured was said to be critical.
Police said the accident occurred when the driver of a SUV bound for Chennai from Bengaluru, driving at a speed in excess of 100 kmph, applied sudden brakes in a bid to avoid hitting a two-wheeler, who tried to cross the road, but ended up knocking him down.
Two cars, travelling one behind the other at an equal speed, crashed into each other, before a lorry rammed into the last car.
In the pile up, four people in the three ill-fated cars were killed on the spot, while two others succumbed to injuries at the hospital late last night. (UNI)
