Sharp shooters, hundreds of SF deployed to prevent any violence on ID

SRINAGAR:  Sharp shooters besides hundreds of security forces have taken position in and around the Bakshi stadium, venue for the main Independence Day (ID) function, in summer capital, Srinagar to prevent any violence during the celebration tomorrow.

Meanwhile, security forces and state police personnel had established naka checking at different places, conducting searching of vehicles, frisking people and questioning pedestrians during the past two days.
Sharp shooters from different security agencies have taken position in and around the stadium, where the main two roads have been closed for any civilian this evening. The nearby Iqbal park remained out of bounds for visitors for the past few days. Security forces again put into service sniffer dogs besides metal detectors today to make sure that there is no explosive in the park.
Hundreds of police and security forces, wearing bullet proof jackets and holding automatic weapons were seen deployed in and around the stadium to prevent any attempt to disturb the ID celebrations.
Security forces and state police personnel have also intensified foot and night patrolling in the areas, about 3 km from stadium to foil any militant attempt to fire grenades or rockets towards the stadium. In 90s militants were firing rockets and grenades towards the stadium on ID and Republic Day (RD) functions. However, due to unprecedented security arrangements such attacks had stopped.
Large number of security forces had also been deployed on all roads leading to stadium besides in the civil lines to prevent any demonstrations.
During the past few days security forces were conducting searches of vehicles and frisking people coming from outskirts to prevent militants to smuggle in arms and ammunition into city for causing any disturbances.
Similar security arrangements were made in other district and tehsil headquarters in the valley, where ID functions would be held tomorrow.
However, despite tight security arrangements militants of Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) attacked a security force party in Badgam in which three CRPF and a police constable were injured today.  (UNI)
