Valley shuts, Mobiles services snapped on eve of Independence day
Srinagar: Life remained paralysed in Kashmir valley due to a shutdown called by the separatist leadership against I-Day celebrations.
All shops and other commercial establishments are closed in Srinagar and other parts of the valley while public transport is off the roads.
Government offices, banks and educational institutions are closed due to a public holiday.
Meanwhile all mobile networks except BSNL has been snapped on the eve of Independence day due to security reason.
Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik has called a shutdown today.
While Geelani and Mirwaiz are under house arrest, Yasin Malik has been lodged at Srinagar central jail to prevent them from leading any anti-India protests.
Meanwhile, forces have been deployed in strength to prevent any militant attacks in Srinagar where the main I-Day function is being held.
Legislator Er Rasheed who had announced to hoist a black flag in Bakshi stadium – main venue of the I-Day celebrations – was placed under house arrest last night.
