Indian, Chinese Army authorities hold meet in Leh after yesterday’s incident
New Delhi: Indian and Chinese Army authorities today held a meeting in Chusul area of Leh a day after PLA troops reportedly entered the India territory along the banks of the Pangong lake in the Ladakh sector, even as both the countries sought to play down the happenings.
According to sources, ‘‘incidents’’ and measures to strengthen existing mechanism for maintaining peace and tranquility on the border were discussed.
Reports yesterday said Indian troops checked Chinese soldier from crossing into their territory, which led to stone pelting causing minor injuries to soldiers on both sides.
Asked about these incidents, an Army spokesperson earlier refused to make any comments, and an official source just pointed to the repeated MEA stand of such incidents happening because of the difference in perception of the Line of Actual Control.
In Beijing , Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hu Chunying, when asked about the incident, said, “I have no such information.’’
She said the Chinese troops were always “committed to maintain peace and tranquility on the India-China-border.
“We always patrol in the Chinese side along the Line of Actual Control. We urge the Indian side to abide by the LAC and relevant conventions between the two sides.”
However, on Doklam, she maintained that territory belonged to China and that Indian troops should withdraw unconditionally for any meaningful dialogue.
