Police, CRPF being trained to handle stone pelting in Kashmir: DG CRPF
Srinagar: Asserting that new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) have been formulated for crowd control, CRPF Director General (DG) R R Bhatnagar said state police and paramilitary personnel are being trained on the new tactics to help them deal with stone pelting in Kashmir valley.
“We along with Jammu and Kashmir Police have devised a new strategy, including using non-lethal ammunition mostly, during stone pelting in the valley. You will see its effect soon,” the DG said while talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function held here for the widows of CRPF personnel killed on duty.
Talking about counter-insurgency operation in Kashmir valley, he said security forces have been successful in killing any top commanders in the last couple of months.
Giving credit of the recent success in counter insurgency operations to better coordination between different security agencies, including police, Army and CRPF, he said the operations will continue in the future as well.
The DG said 132 militants, including seven top commanders, were killed by security forces in this year.
However, the Mr Bhatnagar refused to speak on the number of militants active in the Valley though said that whoever picks up arms will have to face the action.
On NIA profe into terror funding, Mr Bhatnagar said that the raids will affect stone pelting and militancy in the valley. “Raids were necessary since the funds were being using for terror activities,” he added.
