Srinagar: Amid the controversy of article 35A in the state of Jammu and Kashmir “ All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference” the premier body of Panchayats in the state has demanded the holding of Panchayat elections in the state saying that the controversy of article 35 A has been created by the government itself to divert the attention of the people from the real issues they were elected for. However, they vowed to fight any move aimed to erode the special status of the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir. This was announced by Shafiq Mir chairman All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference here at Summer capital Srinagar on Thursday while addressing a press conference after day long convention of Panchayat leaders of the state .
Welcoming the Prime Minister Narender Modi’s statement on Independence day that Kashmir issue can be resolved by hugging and embracing Kashmiris, Shafiq Mir said that the best way to hug and embrace Kashmiris is to restore their dignity and identity and assure them again that all the constitutional rights given to them in Indian constitution will be honoured and strengthened. However, he described the present controversy of article 35 A as self created controversy by the government to divert the attention of the people from the real issues adding that nothing like that was going to happen in near future so no party should try to become the hero of its saviour.
Earlier. In a day long convention of Panchayat members of the state, All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference leaders adopted a resolution addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in which the Panchayat leaders of the state demanded the personal intervention of PM on Kashmir unrest with the assurance that all the constitutional rights guaranteed to them will be protected and strengthened . In the resolution, the panchayat leaders demanded immediate holding of Panchayat elections in the state saying that with the absence of local bodies in place, the developmental process of the state has derailed completely. The Panchayat leaders urged upon the prime minister of India to interfere personally and direct the state government to hold Panchayat elections as soon as possible .
Describing the state government a total failure on all fronts, the panchayat leaders while speaking on the occasion said that the main cause of the unrest in the state is the present state government which had deceived the people severally by taking complete u – Turn on the promise and manifesto they were voted for. The Panchayat leaders urged upon PM to see the Kashmir affairs above party lines and embrace them with certain initiatives. Describing the Panchayat elections most important in the state the Panchayat leaders said that all the developmental process has come turned on halt due the absence of the institution. Those who spoke on the occasion included Imtiaz Afzal Beg , Bashir Ahmed Malik, Ghulam Hassan Panzoo, Abdul Rahim Wani, Mirza Aftab Ahmed Beg Mohammad Aslam Kohli, Farooq Chowdhary , Faiz Ahmed Khanday and Nazir Ahmed Lone.
