Civil Society calls on State Congress president, others

Srinagar: To create a consensus in the defense of Article 35A, Civil Society Coordination Committee Friday called on Congress State President Ghulam Ahmed Mir, People’s Democratic Front Hakim Muhammad Yasin and Chairman Democratic Party (Nationalist) Ghulam Hasan Mir.

These mainstream leaders assured the members of the CSCC that they will take all steps to ensure the protection of special status of Jammu and Kashmir. They expressed anguish over the attempts made by right wingers to abrogate Article 35A. They said ever since the BJP has assumed charge, judiciary is being used to promote its political agenda which is neither in the interest of people of Jammu and Kashmir nor in the interest of Indian people.

Legal luminary Advocate GN Shaheen told news agency CNS that during the meeting, CSCC members including Muzafar Shah, Mir Javaid and Jagmohan Singh Raina appealed these leaders to impress upon the government to call for a special session of State Legislative Assembly. The members assured that they will take up the matter with the ruling dispensation with all seriousness.

Congress president GA Mir assured the members that their party will help in engaging group of lawyers before the Supreme Court to oppose this PIL filed by a lesser known NGO that is backed by RSS. “We have already consulted senior Supreme Court lawyers including Kapil Sibal,” the CSCC members quoted GA Mir as having said.
