Folklore Research Academy holds meet; discuss onslaught of freedom of speech and  independent media

Amritsar: A meeting of Folklore Research Academy(Regd),Amritsar held on 24th Sep.2017 at Virsa Vihar,Amritsar in which It was decided to organize a seminar on the topic “ Current political situation in our country and the onslaught of freedom of speech & independent media “ on 7th Oct.2017 at 11.00 am Virsa Vihar Near,Gandhi Ground,Taylor Road,Amritsar. Though freedom of expression and speech is a fundamental right, attempts are made to curtail & restrict it. The current scenario is frightening especially after the brutal murder of Gauri Lankesh the Senior Journalist in Bangalore earlier this month. In fact Bangalore has witnessed three other murders of free thinking scholars & social activist i.e. M M Kalburgi,Narendra Dhabolkar and Govind Pansare and recently murder of Shantunu Bhowmik a journalist of Bangla news channel “ Din-Raat “ in Tripura. Some journalist have been publically assaulated for disagreeing or criticising the rulling party. There are some journalist who have lost their jobs also.
Intelijents, diffrent social & cultural organisations and common people feel concerned over this grave situtation. It is the time to come together and fight for the freedom of Expression & Speech. It is the duty of everyone to save democracy & basic values enshrined in our constitution.
