40 vehicles seized in Pulwama for illegal mining

Srinagar, Aug 31: As many as 40 vehicles were seized for illegal material extraction in south Kashmir district of today, an official spokesman said here this evening.
He said Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Ghulam Mohammad Dar today launched a drive to enforce the ban on illegal material extraction from streams in the district.
During the drive 40 tippers (trucks) loaded with illegally extracted sand, gravel and boulders were confiscated. These tippers were carrying material extracted from Nallah Rambi Ara, Romshi and other streams of the district.
On the occasion, the DC said that legal action would be taken against violators involved in the illegal material extraction. He said that the extraction of sand, gravel and boulders would be allowed only at the locations which are identified by the Department of Geology and Mining.
Due to illegal extraction of sand, gravel and boulders from the streams and nallahs not only Government is losing revenue but the constructed protection bunds on the streams and nallahs also get damaged, he added.   (UNI)
