DODA,SEPT 01: In a tragic accident,two persons were killed and five other received serious injury when a Tata Sumo in which they were travelling rolled down into a deep gorge at Thatri Pugsoo road in Doda district , here today morning .The injured were shifted to local hospital where doctors referred to District Hospital Doda in view of their critical condition.The Sumo, bearing registration number JK06 3384 was carrying the passengers to Thatri when it met with the accident near Jangalwar Nallah .The vehicle hit several rocks on the slopes before landing in the gorge .On getting information about the accident local people rushed to the spot and started rescue operation even troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR) also reached the spot to assist the local population in bringing out occupants of the ill-fated vehicle from the deep gorge .The killed persons were identified as driver of the vehicle Ashraf s/o Mohd Sharief and Gulam Ali S/o Late Samdu Malik both are residents of Pugsoo and three persons sustained critical injuries in the accident were identified as Javaid Ahmad Wani S/o Abdul Rashid Wani r/o Phagsoo,Tuasef Ganai S/o Late Shamsdin r/o Jangalwar, Sadam Husain S/o Afzal r/o Bhndoga,Shabir Ahmed S/o Gulam Qadir r/o Kathawa and Farooq Ahmed Tantray S /o Jamal Din r/o Khan Pura .The tragic accident has once again put the administration in the dock as there was no crash barrier at the spot where the accident took place. “It is a criminal negligence on the part of the authorities concerned as they didn’t pay any attention towards installing crash barrier at the spot, which is otherwise a accident prone area”, people said, adding “it is also required to be ascertained as to whether the vehicle was having the proper fitness certificate for plying in the hilly areas”.
