Srinagar: Waiting for flights is now an enjoyable experience. Passengers can now sip their favorite Tea/Coffee, accomplished shopping etc and would soon be able to visit a spa or relax at waiting lounge that have come up at the renovated and extended security hold area at first floor of Srinagar airport.
Shri Sharad Kumar, Airport Director told that over the years, Srinagar airport has undergone significant transformation, suffice it to recall what this airport was last year, renovation of 10 no toilet blocks, replacement of granite flooring in terminal building and veranda, new canopy at arrival exit, extension of check-in hall with seven extra counters, installation of common users self service(CUSS) counter, replacement of four X-bis machines, canopy at baggage make-up area and ticketing counters , award of two aerobridges, provision of 450 new passengers trolleys, art gallery in SHA areas and additional 150 three seater passengers chairs.
The most significant difference at the security hold has been the increase in seating capacity. The earlier area was 26000 sqft which is further extended to 19000 Sq ft i.e. increase of 73% almost double. Now everyone has comfortable sitting while waiting for boarding the flights. The increase in the number of display screens showing the flight status and more CCTV for security also helps,” said Sharad Kumar, Airport Director, Srinagar International Airport. One upgraded multicuisine restaurant will also be an attraction in security hold area in addition to other snacks bar counter and CCD.
One frequent flier whispered that “I used to be annoyed while waiting for boarding at the old security hold area of Srinagar airport owing to the limited seating space and long queues at the time of boarding during peak hours that spared nobody. I am delighted with the new, swanky look. I believe it is on a par with most other airports in the country and more spacious with more seating capacity and other facilities,”
In order to provide world class services and efficient facilitation for hassle free easier movement of travelers Shri Sharad Kumar, Airport Director, SIA informed that two (2) more boarding gates are added which will provide direct access to the aerobridge thereby ensuring smooth, less walking and timely boarding of the aircrafts.
Another attraction will be a SPA where passengers can get different therapies to sooth their nerves and relax before boarding the flights. AAI has been creating more and more facilities for the passengers delight and preparing for the growth of traffic so that passengers have maximum comfort during their journey.
