Encounter ensued between militants, security forces in north Kashmir
Srinagar, Sep 9 : An encounter ensued between militants and security forces in apple township of Sopore in north Kashmir district of Baramulla today, official sources said.
On a tip off about the presence of militants security forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint search operation at Reban, Naupora, Sopore in Baramulla district this morning.
However, when the security forces were moving towards a particular area, militants hiding there opened fire with automatic weapons, sources told UNI adding the fire was returned ensuing an encounter after militants refused to surrender.
Exchange of fire was going on when the reports last came in, they said adding two to three militants are holed up in the area.
Source said additional security forces and state police personnel have been rushed to prevent any demonstration outside the cordoned off areas. (UNI)
