Anantnag : Army on Thursday allegedly assaulted students and a school bus driver after hitting his vehicle in Anantnag district of south Kashmir.
Witnesses said that the driver entered into a heated argument with the soldiers after his bus was hit by an army vehicle in Wanpoh area of the district.
They said that army men beat up the school driver, identified as Nazir Ahmad, following which students staged an anti-army protest.
Reports said that soldiers allegedly beat up the students and resorted to aerial firing to disperse the protesters.
Soon, forces deployed in the area resorted to teargas shelling to disperse the protesters.
A student, identified as Sheezan of 10th standard, was shifted to District Hospital Anantnag where he received seven stitches in his head.
Sources said that he was hit by a teargas shell.
Traffic came to a grinding halt because of the protests, they said.
Despite repeated attempts, an army spokesman couldn’t be reached for a comment.
