CM unhappy with working of middle rung-officials ‘Heads of departments asked to compile list of non performing officials for immediate action’

 

Srinagar: As Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, is unhappy over the “poor performance” of middle rung officials of the state, it has been learnt that the chief minister herself has directed the heads of the departments to scrutinize the list of non performing officials for immediate action.

Reliable sources in the government told KNS that Chief Minister Office is receiving regular complaints from various departments about officials who either don’t work at all or harass the public. “The Chief Minister wants to make the state administration transparent and accountable at middle- rung,” one of the top government officials insisting not to be named told KNS.

He said that on the directions of the Chief Minister, the departments are asked to compile a list of honest and upright officers who would be posted in the important postings.

The Chief Minister before Darbarmove wants the radical changes in the functioning of the state’s overall administration. “Transparency in the government is the top priority of the CM. She (CM) wants to ensure that the common masses have accessible, Transparent, accountable government,” Another top officials of the government said.

Sources said that CM wants to place the right men at right places. “The idea behind all this is to make the middle- rung administration more efficient and responsive to the people so that concrete steps would be taken towards the development,” Sources said that there were complaints that several officials at the lower level do not serve the general public properly and because of which the public is suffering.

Sources said that the CM has also directed all the administrative secretaries to provide transparent, effective and accountable governance to the people.

Sources said that the Chief Minister has also considered that there is a notion among the masses that no action is taken against officials for their non-performance. “The government is taking various steps to change this perception and also change the perception of the officials that poor performance or harassing the public would not impact their job,” Sources quoting CM having said.

“I am observing that people come to meet senior officials and the ministers in the civil secretariat only when the district administrations fail. This reflects failure of officials at the district-level. But government will not excuse such officials who are not only lax but also fail to respond to needs and aspirations of the people,” the Sources quoting CM as having told the officials.

Sources said that the CM has also directed not to disturb officials in their respective posts if they understand the aims and objectives of the government and discharge their duties honestly and effectively.
