: Defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman interacts with Governor N N Vohr and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti here this evening, a defence ministry spokesman said here.
Defence Minister will be visiting worlds highest battle field Siachen tomorrow before flying back to New Delhi.
He said the Sitharaman also interacted with the Chief Minister and also called on Governor this evening.
Spokesman said she will be staying in Srinagar overnight and will fly to Thoise (Siachen) tomorrow.
He said earlier the Defence Minister visited the Chinar Corps to review the overall security situation prevailing in the Valley.
Accompanied by Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Gen Bipin Rawat, she was received by Lt Gen D Anbu, Northern Army Commander and Lt Gen J S Sandhu, the Chinar Corps Commander.
The Defence Minister visited the forward areas and was briefed about the robust Counter Infiltration posture along the Line of Control.
She was subsequently briefed by the Army Commander in Badami Bagh Cantonment on the prevailing security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and was given an overview of the Counter Infiltration and Counter Militant Operations undertaken in the recent past.
She appreciated the effectiveness of the intelligence and operational grids and commended the troops for the excellent operational successes, which had contributed significantly towards a secure environment in the State.
The Defence minsiter complimented the commanders for the high level of synergy achieved with the JKP and CAPF.
