Braid chopping incidents continues, triggers protests, clashes

 

Srinagar: Protests erupted in different part of Valley against braid chopping incidents today on Tuesday.

Reports said that in Botshah Mohalla area of Lalbazar Srinagar after a fresh braid chopping attempt was made on a lady whose some part of braid was chopped a few days ago.

Reports said that the residents of the area took to streets and blocked the traffic movement on Hazratbal-Lalbazar-Lalchowk route against the alleged attempt of braid chopping. The lady has been identified as Subayya. Reports said a few days ago a part of her braid was cut after she was cleaning the Veranda of her house.

Meanwhile, police has reached to the spot and are trying to pacify the protesting residents.

Meanwhile Braid of a woman was chopped by unknown persons in Pehliharn village of Narvaw area of Baramulla district in northern part of Kashmir late last evening, reports said.

 

The incident, according to reports, took place around 8 pm when the lady went to washroom outside their house. The victim was identified as Shaheena wife of Manzoor Ahmad Lone. She is the mother of two kids.

In Srinagar, protests, clashes erupted in Rambagh area after braid of braid of a local woman was found chopped off, mysteriously.

Reports said that scores of protesters blocked the main road at Rambagh and raised slogans. Traffic movement on the busy road also came to halt. Forces swung into action and used tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters.

Reports also said that Clashes erupted in Redi Chowkibal area of Kupwara district after braid of a woman was cut Tuesday morning.

Locals alleged that ‘territorial army’ personnel barged into the house of Ghulam Nabi Pir and sprayed some substance on the woman that left her unconscious. Later he chopped off the hair of the woman who was identified as Saima, daughter of Ghulam Nabi Pir.

According to locals, that when the “chopper” came out of their house, he raised hue and cry to alert the neighbours. “We then chased the man caught hold of him.”

After the news about the incident spread in the area, people came out on roads and held massive protests. Locals alleged that they caught the “chopper” who upon identification said that he is a “territorial army” man.

Police rushed to the spot to take the alleged custody in custody, but locals alleged that army came in rushing and took him away.

Meanwhile, the Army Man was rescued by the joint team of army and police and has been sent to Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, stone pelting clashes have spread in Kralpora as well. Reports said that after the news about the incident spread in the village, youth pelted stones on forces who retaliated by firing tear smoke canisters. Many youth have suffered injuries in the clashes.

A police official told PTK that the army personnel was rescued by army and taken along. (PTK)
