Eight civilians injured in cross border firing

 

Jammu:  Seven civilians were injured on Wednesday after the armies of India and Pakistan exchanged heavy fire and shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu and Kashmir, sources said.

According to sources firing started early morning today in villages located close to the LoC in Balakote and Mendhar areas of Poonch and Manjakote area of Rajouri district.

Four civilians – three labourers and a woman were injured in Drati and Basooni villages of Balakote in Mendhar sub-division of Poonch, a police officer said.

The injured were shifted to local hospital and are said to be out of danger.

“Indian positions are strongly and effectively retaliating. The exchange across the LoC was still on at all these three places till the last reports came in,” the police officer said.

Besides, three civilians sustained minor injuries in two villages of Manjakote of Rajouri district.

Two cars parked on a roadside were also damaged in the shelling.
