Handwara : Police Wednesday arrested Imam of a local masjid and head of a Darul Uloom (religious school) in Kupwara allegedly on charges of rape.
The accused has been identified as AltafHussainMalik,a resident of Hayan Trehgam. The accused according to police sources said was spotted by locals of Mawar village in a compromising position with a woman last night and was beaten up ruthlessly before being handed over to police.
Malik, 35, has been leading prayers in a local masjid in Mawar village for past few years and is head of a DarulUloom there, locals said.
Police has registered a case and taken up investigations.
