Now, ED notice to Yasin Malik in FEMA case
New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate has issued notice to separatist leader Yasin Malik and two others for alleged violation of Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) and asked them to respond in 30 days.
ED sources here on Friday said that the notice was sent recently.
The case relates to the transactions of Rs 48.23 lakhs. An FIR was lodged in the case in 2001.
Malik and others have been issued the notice asking them to respond in 30 days. Proceedings in the case will commence after receipt of their response, the sources said.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police had seized one million US dollars (Rs 48.23 lakh according to the exchange rate at that time). This amount was confiscated from Mushtaq Ahmed Dar from Srinagar and his wife Shamima alias Shazia alias Bitti.
Sources said that Mr Dar had told the police in an interrogation that a Nepalese man had given him the amount to hand over to Mr. Malik. The JKLF chief was arrested and he is currently on bail in this case.
