Corruption and ignorance
By Zaib Sofi
While state government tries to keep an eye on corruption and uplifting the Anti-corruption moves through vigilance and other departments as well, I could just see that the all of the efforts made by state and union government are going useless and are of no benefit because of corrupted officials of government which even don’t try to investigate the matters and look into the grievances of a common person who is being exhausted and discouraged in government offices. I would just like to narrate my story of all of my visits to RTO Kashmir where I had to go to register my vehicle. After my lot of visits made over there, I just came to understand that all of my exercise is going waste because the actual fact was that all the time the officials had been wasting my time which is very precious for me being a civil service aspirant. They just made me wander here and there and were taking a lot of time for a very simple work even, which made me feel disgusted and even sometimes I broke down after reaching home that my studies got badly affected by the immense wastage of time and all the time I had been cursing my society which I am living in. This is the only reason I wrote an article to publish on newspapers so that I would be able to communicate with the people of my society with which I might able to help a common man so that he wouldn’t face which I had to.
Coming to the context of my article, I just want to let all of my readers know that it was only the ignorance of the employees sitting over there, only because they either needed a call from a Minister or an MLA so that they would take my file in special consideration, Or they were asking for money which I was not ready to give because neither I like to get corrupted nor I want to corrupt anyone.
I was just glad that if government is paying them for their duty, what and why do they expect anything else from a common person unnecessarily? It’s just the mistake or I can call it blunder done by people like us who easily get under their pressure and pay them unnecessarily to get a very simple job of registering a vehicle done by them. Now all of the employees have got used to it and if you don’t corrupt them with whatever amount {small or big} they would do the work very slowly. Like if the work could get done in one hour, they will take at least 5 days of your precious time.
Now the other most important factor is the time. We all know that everyone in today’s modern era is busy with their schedules. A student busy with studies, an employee with his job and a trader with his business, about which they hardly care and take things very lightly which is actually very disgusting and shameful.
Concluding my article, I would just like to make a request to every person reading this article to share this message of not paying any single penny to any government official which are in fact already being paid by government to serve every citizen, and especially not losing their self-respect for a little amount of work. Just try to get your work done without paying a penny as I am repeating that they are already paid by government to do such works.
If we don’t stop this illiterate practice of paying unnecessarily for even a little work then one day will come when nobody will be there to help us without taking money even for a signature and that’s going to lead us to a faulty system of living.
