Day Long Programme on Waste Management Programme held at IUST
Awantipora, Nov. 29: As part of waste management awareness programme among the faculty and students, Mantaqi Centre for Science and Society and Department of Mathematical Sciences (Environmental Science Division), Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) organized one day programme on waste management and cleanliness drive, today at IUST Campus. Prof. Fozia Qazi formally welcomed the participants and spoke of the importance of waste management and its disposal. Prof. Qazi mentioned Repairing, Sharing and Reusing as part of traditional Kashmiri cultural ethos and how these three important principles can be used in in contemporary times in minimizing the quantity of waste.
Chief Guest of the occasion Prof. Mushtaq Ahmad Qureshi, Dean Academic Affairs IUST highlighted the effects of pollutants and their chemical reactions on different life forms of earth. He brought religious and moral insights into the discussion in light of the teachings of Prophet Mohammad (SAW) depicting cleanliness of our surroundings and of oneself and how that can protect our environment.
Mr. Manzoor Ah Tarray (Ex-Chief Sanitation Officer) Srinagar Municipal Corporation gave a presentation highlighting the importance of sanitation and waste management practices that need to be incorporated at domestic, municipal and individual level. Depicting the role of municipal corporations in waste management and its proper disposal Also an on-site demonstration on waste collection, segregation and treatment was performed by Mr. Tarray. Further the role and active participation of youth in dealing with the waste as per the prescribed rules and regulation of SPCB and CPCB was emphasized. Dr. M. Muzamil Bhat faculty environmental science presented the Vote of Thanks.
The programme ended with a cleanliness drive within campus which was attended by both faculty and students
